Google Chrome will not start (Windows Only)
Posted by Martin Lucero on 20 February 2015 02:45 PM

I have recently ran into a Google Chrome issue that may have been caused by malware. The symptoms don't allow Google Chrome to start or even load up properly. What I did was run a complete system scan for any malware and viruses. Then I applied the following fix: (this may not retain old user data from the previous install so exporting Bookmarks may be a good idea if the user has a lot)

Remove folder User Data
  1. Go to the Windows folder "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome"
  2. Rename "User Data" to "User Data_backup"
  3. Start Chrome

This a simple and quick fix to get Google Chrome started again assuming its doing this and/or it may have been caused by malware.
